Entegris (ENTG) Q3 2026 earnings review
Entegris sales top $1 billion, while Materials margins slip
Entegris, which supplies ultra-pure chemicals and filters to chipmakers, crossed $1 billion in quarterly sales as orders jumped across its business. Revenue rose 25% from a year ago, topping the high end of the company's plan by $71 million, while profit per share excluding one-offs climbed 71%. Chief executive Dave Reeder credited new design wins and rising chip complexity, and issued a fourth-quarter sales plan that sits well above what management pointed to three months ago.
| Revenue | $1,005.7M +24.6% from a year ago |
|---|---|
| Profit per share, excluding one-offs | $1.23 +70.8% from a year ago |
| Gross margin, excluding one-offs | 48.9% +5.3 percentage points from a year ago |
| Q4 revenue outlook | $1,025โ1,055M middle of the range: +26.2% growth |
โ๏ธ Verdict: ๐ข Bullish
The story got better because the semiconductor recovery is filling Entegris's newer factories faster than planned, lifting gross margin near 49% and generating $224 million in free cash flow. That cash allowed the group to pay down $200 million of debt and cut net debt below 2.9 times annual cash profit by our math, beating its year-end goal a quarter early. One caution: profit margins in the Materials Solutions division slipped from last quarter even as its sales accelerated.
The question now is how much of this surge comes from a temporary wave of chip-factory construction versus recurring daily chemical use, and whether Materials Solutions can expand its margins alongside the purity division. Sceptics see a building boom that will cool and about 1.6 points of accounting help in the year-over-year gross margin gain; optimists see a multi-year shift toward more materials per wafer. The November 9 Capital Markets Day and first-quarter 2027 margins will test both views.
๐ Bull Case
Purity Equipment Sales Drove a $1 Billion Quarter
Entegris sells consumable chemicals used every day in chipmaking and equipment bought when chipmakers build or upgrade factories. That factory spending accounts for about a quarter of revenue, and sceptics worry a building pause could reverse growth as it did in 2025. Instead, chief executive Dave Reeder said the group is acting to "expand plans of record and secure new design wins, driving strong revenue growth across our unit and capex businesses".
- Total sales: $1,005.7 million, up 24.6% from a year ago and $85.7 million above the middle of the outlook
- Advanced Purity Solutions (APS), which sells liquid filters and wafer carriers: $604.9 million, up 31.3% from a year ago
- Fourth-quarter sales outlook: $1,025 million to $1,055 million, or 26.2% growth at the middle of the range by our math
The revenue beat was double the company's 4.6% average over the past four quarters, and the fourth-quarter plan sits about $83 million above what management indicated three months ago. What to watch: the split between factory-equipment orders and daily consumable sales in the quarterly filing. Continued strength in equipment orders would show the building wave is still expanding into 2027.
Spare Factory Capacity Lifted Gross Margin Near 49%
Entegris has built out factories in Taiwan and Colorado over the past two years, leaving it with spare manufacturing capacity that weighed on profit when volumes were low. Management has argued that as orders return, roughly 60% of each new sales dollar should turn into gross profit because the factories are already paid for.
That operating leverage showed up in the third quarter. Cost of sales โ the direct cost of making products โ fell by 6.2 percentage points of revenue from a year ago to 50.3% (or by 5.4 points excluding one-offs). Gross margin excluding one-offs rose 5.3 points from a year ago and 1.3 points from last quarter to 48.9%. By our math, 58.7% of the quarter's $122.5 million sequential sales gain turned into gross profit excluding one-offs, matching the 59% implied by the prior outlook.
Higher factory use pushed APS segment profit margin excluding one-offs to 34.4%, up from 30.3% last quarter. What to watch: gross margin in the first quarter of 2027. That period will lap an accounting change on equipment depreciation that currently adds about 1.6 percentage points to the year-over-year margin gain by our math.
Record Cash Flow Cut Debt Below the Year-End Target
Entegris carries over $3.2 billion in long-term debt from past acquisitions, and paying it down has been a central goal ahead of bond maturities in 2028 and 2029. Reeder highlighted "record cash flow, enabling us to accelerate debt repayment and further strengthen our balance sheet".
Operating cash flow reached $266.8 million and free cash flow rose 17.1% from a year ago to $223.6 million, or 22.2% of sales by our math. The chip-materials supplier paid down $200 million of debt during the quarter, bringing nine-month net debt repayments to $450 million. By our math, net debt to trailing 12-month adjusted EBITDA โ cash profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation โ fell to 2.88 times from 3.4 times last quarter, beating management's year-end goal of under 3.0 times a quarter early.
What to watch: capital allocation targets at the Capital Markets Day on November 9, 2026. With net leverage now below three times, management may outline when cash will shift from debt paydown toward share buybacks or new investments.
๐ป Bear Case
Materials Growth Accelerated, But Profit Margins Slipped
Materials Solutions (MS) sells specialty gases, deposition chemicals, and polishing pads and slurries used directly on silicon wafers. Reeder credited new design wins and rising materials intensity for strong growth across the business, and the division cleared management's target of 10% growth.
Sales in MS rose 15.9% from a year ago and 8.8% from last quarter to $404.1 million. Yet the division's profit margin excluding one-offs moved the wrong way, slipping to 20.4% from 20.9% in the second quarter and 22.0% in the first quarter. While APS added $52.4 million of adjusted profit on $90.3 million of new sequential sales, MS added only $4.6 million of profit on $32.8 million of new sales โ a 14% sequential drop-through by our math.
That margin slip cuts against the claim that higher-value AI chip materials and spare capacity lift profitability across the whole portfolio, keeping alive questions about pricing and rivalry in polishing slurries. What to watch: MS segment margin in the fourth quarter. A rebound above 21% would show third-quarter mix was temporary.
Risks this quarter didn't answer
Four standing concerns from prior quarters could not be tested from the earnings release and summary slides alone.
- Depreciation accounting lap: extending equipment lives cut quarterly depreciation to $33.9 million from $50.4 million a year ago, supplying 1.6 percentage points of the 5.3-point adjusted gross margin gain; the real test arrives when the change laps in the first quarter of 2027.
- China sales and local rivalry: the release gives no geographic revenue table; the quarterly 10-Q filing will show how sales in China performed.
- Raw material cost pressure: management did not comment on noble gas and resin costs; conference call remarks will show whether input inflation hurt Materials Solutions margins.
- Mainstream logic and advanced packaging: the release gives no revenue split by chip type; call commentary or the November 9 Capital Markets Day will update progress beyond leading-edge AI chips.

Entegris Excluded an $8.3 Million Tariff Refund From Core Profit
Entegris received $8.3 million in refunds for International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs paid between April 2025 and February 2026. The company kept those tariff costs inside its profit excluding one-offs when paid, but removed the refund this quarter as "a discrete, non-recurring, out-of-period recovery arising from a legal and regulatory development rather than ongoing operating performance". The refund lifted reported gross margin by 0.8 percentage points to 49.7%.
๐ฒ Other KPIs
Working capital expanded alongside the sales jump. Customer bills awaiting payment rose 26.8% from a year ago to $625.2 million, slightly faster than the 24.6% revenue gain, while inventory rose 18.9% to $769.0 million. Higher unpaid bills and inventory consumed $136.2 million of cash in the quarter, though a $152.2 million rise in unpaid supplier bills and accrued expenses offset the drain.
Spending on property and equipment fell 35.2% from $66.7 million a year ago, dropping to 4.3% of revenue by our math. Through nine months, capital spending totals $124.0 million against $241.2 million at this point last year. Because its major Taiwan and Colorado plants are already built, the group is keeping factory outlays low and converting more profit into free cash flow.
The diluted share count rose 1.1% from 152.3 million a year ago and 0.2% from last quarter. With all excess cash directed toward paying down the term loan, the semiconductor supplier has not bought back shares, and employee stock awards have nudged the share count slightly higher each quarter.
๐ฎ Guidance
Raised. The new plan calls for $1.04 billion at the middle of the range, up 26.2% from a year ago and 3.4% from the third quarter by our math. That sits roughly $83 million above what management's prior commentary pointed to. Combining nine-month results with the fourth-quarter midpoint puts full-year revenue at $3.74 billion by our math, up 17.0% from 2025.
New. Profit per share excluding one-offs is planned at $1.36 at the middle of the range, up 94.3% from $0.70 a year ago and 10.6% above the third quarter by our math. The step-up comes from higher sales, rising operating margins, and lower interest costs after recent debt paydowns.
New. The middle of the range is $1.13 per share, more than triple the $0.32 earned in the fourth quarter of 2025 and up 9.7% from the third quarter by our math. The reconciliation assumes $0.29 per share of intangible asset amortisation and no new restructuring charges.
New. Planned net income of $174.5 million at the middle of the range is up 253.2% from $49.4 million a year ago and up 10.6% from the third quarter by our math. Last year's fourth quarter was weighed down by $12.3 million of restructuring charges and a $10.9 million loss on a small business sale.
New. At the $209.0 million middle of the range, profit excluding one-offs will nearly double (+96.2%) from $106.5 million a year ago and rise 10.2% from the third quarter by our math.
New. The middle of the range is 30.95% of sales ($315โ329 million), up from 30.2% in the third quarter and 27.7% a year ago. In the outlook reconciliation, the company also plans operating margin excluding one-offs of 27.4โ27.9% (up from 26.8% in Q3) and GAAP operating margin of 23.0โ23.7%, alongside operating expenses excluding one-offs of $224โ230 million.
โ Key Questions
Why did Materials Solutions profit margin slip as sales grew?
Materials Solutions revenue jumped 8.8% from last quarter to $404.1 million, yet its segment margin excluding one-offs fell half a point to 20.4%. Did raw material costs or lower prices in polishing slurries hold back profit?
Did the new Taiwan filtration plant reach breakeven in Q3?
Management previously said the Kaohsiung, Taiwan (KSP) facility was on track to break even in the third quarter or second half. With purity segment margins jumping to 34.4%, how much of the gain came from Taiwan versus overall volume?
What is the split between equipment and daily consumable growth?
The release notes strong growth across both unit and factory-equipment businesses, but gives no percentages. Because equipment cycles can pause after factories are outfitted, how much of the 25% sales jump came from one-time factory build-outs?
Will Entegris recoup more tariffs, and what happens in China?
The company collected $8.3 million in refunded tariffs from 2025 and early 2026. Are more refunds pending, and how did sales in China perform during the third quarter?
